We will be hiking along the Peterson Memorial Trail which connects to the Sanborn Trail. The Peterson Memorial Trail is a beautiful wide two-way gravel trail that is mostly shaded with tall redwood trees in the mountains of Saratoga.
We will start with a group stretch under a grove of redwood trees down by the parking lot. Then we will take to the trail which features a moderate 1 mile uphill climb to the 400 ft. elevation above Sanborn County Park. There are parts of this incline that are steep, but we can stop and take short breaks as needed on a few flat areas. The reward is the completely downhill hike on the connecting Sanborn Trail to the beautiful creek water running down the mountain where we can take another short break on the big rocks under shady trees.
The rest of the trail is also downhill through the campsites on a paved surface. Total trail length is 1.4 miles and it takes a little under an hour to hike the entire loop with rest stops. We will end at the park's shaded meadow where we will enjoy a picnic lunch, volleyball, frisbee and chat time (small portable net).
This is a dog friendly hike, but dogs must be on a leash. Bring your own packed lunch.
