What's this week's podcast about?
When your job hinges on how well you talk to people, you learn a lot about how to have conversations -- and that most of us don't converse very well. Celeste Headlee has worked as a radio host for decades, and she knows the ingredients of a great conversation: Honesty, brevity, clarity and a healthy amount of listening. In this insightful talk, she shares 10 useful rules for having better conversations. "Go out, talk to people, listen to people," she says. "And, most importantly, be prepared to be amazed."
What’s Think & Drink?
Each week we meet up on zoom, break up into small groups, and discuss a brain-stimulating topic with our favorite beverage in hand. Each discussion will be accompanied by a short, < 20-minute video which we all watch before-hand. The short videos are from producers like TED, Vox and Vice Media.
Our conversations are casual and open and we encourage everyone to speak freely, respectfully and concisely. We try out best to stick to Grice's Maxims (https://bit.ly/2p4uSQm). Ultimately, the idea is to help each other think a little differently, learn a thing or two and have some fun.
Due to our new lifestyle, we've started to meet on zoom and its worked out pretty well so far. To join, see the zoom instructions above. We'll start off with a quick spiel then split up into small 'breakout' groups of 4 or 5 people. We'll switch every 30 mins or so.
